Solar Sharer Offer (SSO)
For those unfamiliar, the SSO is a new regulated electricity plan (effective 1 July 2026) introduced under the Default Market Offer (DMO) framework, designed to encourage greater use of excess daytime solar energy and help lower overall electricity system costs.
Retailers are required to offer eligible customers free electricity during designated peak solar generation periods. Households with smart meters will receive at least three hours of free electricity each day within a fixed midday time window.
The free usage windows are NSW and Southeast Queensland: 12pm – 3pm, and South Australia: 11am – 2pm. These time windows will remain fixed throughout the year, including during daylight savings, and retailers cannot choose alternative periods as they are specifically aligned with peak solar generation times.
Importantly, retailers with more than 1,000 customers will need to offer the SSO to eligible customers.
Retailers must also obtain explicit customer consent before placing a customer onto the SSO. Customers cannot be automatically transferred through deemed contracts, default placements, or end-of-contract rollovers. Where consent is not provided, customers must remain on a standard DMO standing offer, such as a flat-rate DMO or a non-SSO Time of Use DMO.
Important: This applies to unembedded networks only. Embedded networks are expected to be included at a later stage. We’ll continue to share updates as the initiative progresses.
Your actions
Below is the list of actions you'll need to complete by 1 July 2026.
Create timing profile and add to price plan
Timing Profiles define when specific pricing rates apply throughout the day. They allow you to assign different tariffs or charges based on time periods.
Refer to Knowledge Base articles Timing Profiles - add or edit, and Pricing - Timing Profiles.
Create new price plans
Pricing is used to define the rates, charges, tariffs, and billing rules applied to customer accounts and services.
Refer to Knowledge Base article Pricing - create, duplicate or edit.
Add price plans to buildings
Price plans need to be added in the Building Maintenance screen as “Generally Available.” This ensures they are included in best offer calculations.
Refer to Knowledge Base article Buildings - add price plans.
Customer communications
You may wish to send a notification to customers advising them about the new SSO offer.
Refer to Knowledge Base article Letters, Emails and SMS - Bulk send adhoc email/letter.
